Region creating more temporary housing

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The Region of Waterloo has announced a partnership to allow for more housing options.

By the end of November, House of Friendship will provide temporary transitional housing at its former shelter location at 63 Charles St. E. in Kitchener.

It means 25 men will receive support around the clock.

The region points out the interim solution will not be a shelter, will be referral-based and cannot accept drop-ins.

“We know that more housing options are needed across the region to address the needs of our community, which is why the Region is working on collaborative solutions to support residents experiencing homelessness,” Regional Chair Karen Redman said in a news release.

Earlier this month, HOF announced its emergency shelter was closing temporarily, as work continues to secure funding to finalize the purchase of a new location.
