New domestic terminal to be unveiled at Regional Airport

By Stuart McGinn

The Region of Waterloo International Airport is set to unveil some of its renovation work Thursday morning.

A new domestic arrivals building will be opened as of 10 a.m.

Regional Chair Karen Redman and Kitchener-Conestoga MP Tim Louis will be on hand for the announcement.

The building is one part of a broader, $35 million airport terminal expansion project at the airport, funded in part by the Municipality of Waterloo and the Canada Community-Building Fund.

The domestic terminal is being referred to as a 'first step' toward improving the overall passenger experience and meeting an increase in demand.

It's estimated that 700,000 travellers will travel through the airport in Breslau this year.

Last month, YKF was also named the sixth busiest airport in Canada, in the Annual Aircraft Movement Report from Statistics Canada.
