After announcing plans to distribute free COVID-19 rapid test kits at select LCBO locations across the province on Thursday, the LCBO has since confirmed it has run out of its supply of kits.
Those kits were distributed on a “first-come, first served” basis, made available at 100 stores across Ontario — including seven locations in Waterloo Region. According to the LCBO's Twitter page, local locations were largely depleted by the early afternoon on Friday.
Posting on Twitter, the LCBO has since confirmed that its supply of COVID-19 rapid test kits has run out as they thanked Ontarians for their patience and understanding.
The provincial retailer added that they'll notify the public if they receive more testing kits.
Posting on the province's testing website, the Ministry of Health notes all test kits bound for select LCBO stores offering free take-home rapid test kits have now been distributed, as they offered “many thanks” to the LCBO for their participation in the “Pop-up COVID-19 Testing Holiday program.”
The province will continue to work with “local partners, public health units and municipalities” to offer rapid antigen tests at pop-up sites “based on local needs and data.” A list of upcoming distribution sites has been posted online, to be updated on Fridays. As of Saturday morning, there were no listed locations in the Region of Waterloo.
Our supply of COVID-19 rapid test kits has run out. Thanks for your patience & understanding. We’ll post if we receive more. Visit https://t.co/fYKqUymQya for info on screening & take-home kits at pop-ups across the province.
