Karen Redman has made it official—she's seeking re-election as Regional Chair.
Redman filed her nomination papers on Monday, but confirmed in March that she intends to stick around the next four years.
“There’s no question the last two years have been enormously challenging for every sector of our community,” she said in a release.
But, Redman said she's energized by the opportunity to keep providing leadership in the community.
“Our region has a significant capacity to attract investment from other levels of government. It’s imperative that the region’s leadership is committed to building a strong and diverse local economy, supporting an equitable society, and initiating partnerships and growth,” she said.
“I believe I have demonstrated effectiveness in these areas and I welcome the opportunity to continue.”
Redman served her first term starting in 2018 and was CEO for Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region before her election.
She's also served in municipal government and federal parliament.
Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic has not yet announced his fall intentions.
Cambridge Mayor Kathryn McGarry is seeking re-election, while Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky will not run.
Waterloo Region residents go to the polls October 24.
