It comes just three weeks before the service is set to launch.

An ION train has been involved in a crash in downtown Kitchener.

It happened just after 12:30 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Duke Street West and Water Street North.

The collision also involved a minivan.

Waterloo Regional Police say two people suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The ION driver was not injured.

Late Friday afternoon, police said they had charged the driver of the minivan with several offences including failing to stop for a red light.

The region's commissioner of transportation and environmental services tells 570 NEWS the train was driven back to their operations and storage facility.

“Grandlinq has told us that they expect they will be able to repair the vehicle and have it available for testing tomorrow (Saturday) morning.” said Thomas Schmidt.

Schmidt is cautioning motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to be careful, as the trains are large and quiet.

He says they currently have ten trains testing each day, which will be about the same amount that will be on the tracks when the service launches on June 21.
