Filming for fifth season of The Handmaid's Tale sets up at Forbes Estate

Shooting exterior scenes for popular series may cause minor traffic disruptions Monday

The Forbes Estate at 171 Guelph Avenue was built in 1912 by George Forbes, who played a prominent role in the history of Hespeler.

The film crew behind the popular Hulu series and Cambridge filming mainstay The Handmaid's Tale is back in town this week, shooting scenes for the upcoming fifth season.

The city sent out a notice Friday, notifying residents about the film shoot coming to the Forbes Estate on Guelph Avenue in Hespeler on Monday.

Work to get the property ready for exterior scenes has been happening for the past week under the name "Ruby Road."

Filming is also happening inside the stately heritage home built in 1912 by local industrialist George Forbes.

The city said exterior filming is scheduled to happen between Fisher Mills Road and Sheffield Street between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. April 4 and may require intermittent traffic control.

The base camp for the crew is at the Hespeler Arena and tech parking will be located on Shaw Avenue East and Henry Villa Drive.

For more information on filming in Cambridge, visit the film office website or the provincial film commission website.

The city says residents shouldn't hesitate to contact the Invest Cambridge office at invest@cambridge.ca or (519) 740-4685, ext 4724 with any questions or concerns.

The "Ruby Road" crew says they will be returning to Cambridge "for two to three more visits throughout spring/summer 2022."
