Buddy League Canada celebrating its second year with Opening Day event in Cambridge

It's your chance to cheer on our local adaptive baseball league.

For the second year in a row, Buddy League Canada is hosting its inclusive Opening Day event in Cambridge.

Organizer Cam Linwood says everyone is eager to get out on the diamond.

“It's been a bit of a soggy start for spring training, but we have a couple days of sunshine and warm weather ahead. That's going to set us up for Saturday, as it's our big Opening Day celebration.”

Linwood says the program is developed for kids and adults with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, and helps players develop a love of the sport, make friends, and build confidence and self-esteem.

Waterloo Regional Police Chief Bryan Larkin will be tossing the first pitch, and calls it a very special league.

“It brings together people of all ages with physical and intellectual challenges – it goes beyond seeing the ability in their disability.”

Opening Day is happening at the baseball diamond behind Saginaw Public School starting Saturday at 11 a.m.
