‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ this Christmas

By Aastha Shetty

This year's Be a Santa to a Senior program by Home Instead is hoping to brighten the Christmas of lonely seniors living in Waterloo Region.

Owner of KW's Home Instead location, Brenda Enright, said the program helps brighten the lives of lower-income older adults who are alone during the holiday season.

“Through the generous support of our Kitchener-Waterloo community, Home Instead is able to get busy and collect gifts, so we can distribute those to isolated seniors to show them that they are thought of and that they are valued members of our community.”

She said a new partnership is helping them overcome the challenges that have come with COVID restrictions.

“We're actually using Amazon Business across North America. Isolation is a concern for seniors at the best of times, but this year, many seniors across Kitchener-Waterloo are even more isolated due to COVID-19, and will likely be spending their holidays alone.”

She said it's pretty easy to fulfil a wish-list.

“Members in the community who are interested can log on to beasantatoasenior.com, enter their postal code and Amazon Business will direct them to a wish-list. On there, you will see all the Christmas Wishes of the seniors in our Kitchener-Waterloo community.”
