Long-term care facilities have been greatly impacted by COVID-19, as many have declared outbreaks throughout Waterloo Region.
For weeks, NDP MPP of Kitchener Centre, Laura Mae Lindo, and her team have been working with everyone involved with long-term care and advocating for all necessary resources.
"This is a sector that has been starved for resources for so long," said Mae Lindo during the Mike Farwell Show on 570 NEWS.
Mae Lindo said she cannot wait to get back to Queen's Park, so MPPs can put in place further support and investment into these facilities.
"These problems didn't just start with COVID-19, these are issues in long-term care for instance that PSWs, nurses, and families have been hoping to be addressed by the government well before this (pandemic)."
As the Ford government continues to monitor and discuss economic recovery, they also need to devote time to senior citizens.
"That we see real commitment, (such as), real resource allocation, to the senior sector, and long-term care in particular," said Mae Lindo.
Mae Lindo mentioned the lessons learned from SARS, and added although they may have been learned in theory, they have not been used practically.
