It was a busy weekend at advance polls across the country.

According to preliminary figures released by Elections Canada on Tuesday, 5.78 million voters have already cast their ballot.

It's an over 18 per cent increase compared to 2019, which was previously the best turnout at advance polls at 4.87 million.

Advance polls were open from Friday, September 10 to Monday, September 14.

"I want to thank the electors who took advantage of advance polls for their patience and their help in making this a safe experience for everyone. I also want to thank the tens of thousands of election workers for making this possible," Chief Electoral Officer Stéphane Perrault said in a news release.
