Cambridge Summer Live series continues with local ‘Galt Kilties’

Preston’s Central Park will be filled with the sound of big band tunes on Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. as the Cambridge Summer Live series continues.

The Summer Live series, sponsored by the Central Ontario Musicians’ Association, will host 18 musical acts and movie nights through the summer in Preston. The series began on July 19 and will conclude on August 30.

Sunday July 26 sees the Galt Kilties take the stage at Preston’s Central Park Gazebo. The Galt Kilties are a local Cambridge band that is a continuation of the historic “Galt Band”, which has played in the area since July of 1902. According to their website, the Galt Kilties’ repertoire ranges across many genres, including classical, folk, Christmas, contemporary pop, and even show tunes. The group is made up of 40 instrumental players of all ages, including high school students, adults, seniors, and veterans with military backgrounds.

The band is conducted by Martin Lacoste, a graduate of the music program at Wilfrid Laurier University. He has directed several different concert bands, jazz bands, and orchestras, and is currently the head of music at Waterloo’s Bluevale Collegiate Institute.

The concert will take place from the gazebo at Preston Central Park, located at the corner of King Street E and Argyle Street N.
