New dedicated bylaw reporting number unveiled for tri-cities

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

A new dedicated phone number for reporting bylaw issues in the tri-cities was unveiled on Monday.

It’s a partnership between the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) and the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.

Residents will be able to call the new centralized line to report bylaw matters, including those relating to property standards, noise complaints and parking issues. The changes are an effort to alleviate some of the strain on the non-emergency WRPS line, which received 9,646 calls last year about bylaw matters.

A new bylaw radio channel will also launch to alleviate congestion on police systems.

“Separating bylaw and police communications is an important step forward,” said WRPS Chief Mark Crowell in a release. “This change allows our Communications Centre members to focus on urgent police matters, while ensuring residents continue to receive timely and appropriate responses to bylaw concerns.”

The digits for the new bylaw number are 519-585-8088.
