With the World Cup just days away, Waterloo Region is preparing to cheer on Team Canada.
The excitement at Kitchener Soccer Club (KSC) has been building for some time now, with events and giveaways planned throughout the tournament.
“Between staff and members, it’s pretty much all anyone can talk about, especially this week leading up to the tournament,” said Danielle Byers, Manager of Club and Community Development at KSC.
The club is set to host a watch party at Edelweiss Tavern in Kitchener on June 18 for the second Canada game of the tournament against Qatar.
“For people that might not be that familiar with soccer, it gets more eyeballs on the sport, especially being so close to home,” said Byers.
KSC and Kitchener TFC, the local branch of the MLS club that plays at BMO Field, are also set to take part in the Canada Celebrates nation-wide watch party on July 11 at Carl Zehr Square.
“To be able to see soccer at such a high level, and the nation so excited about it, I think it’s a great opportunity for Waterloo Region to capture the hearts and minds of these young players, and shows them what the ultimate dream is,” said Byers.
