Eastbound Hwy. 401 in Mississauga has reopened after an overnight shooting investigation shut down a major stretch of the highway.

Peel Regional Police (PRP) confirmed the shooting happened around 12:16 a.m. Friday. Investigators say the victim pulled off the highway after the gunfire and called police for help.

A vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting was located in the collector lanes near the Mavis Road off‑ramp, where officers were seen searching the roadway with flashlights.

Peel Paramedics say they did not transport anyone, and the severity of the victim’s injuries remains unclear.

The OPP has taken over the investigation.

The eastbound transfer lanes at Creditview Road were closed for several hours as officers searched for evidence.

Investigators are asking anyone who was driving through the area around the time of the shooting to contact the OPP.
