‘We just want to give back’: New Hamburg restaurant hosts free Thanksgiving Lunch

After being a part of the Wilmot Township community for a decade, a local pub is looking to give back this Thanksgiving Sunday.

The Scran and Dram Pub at 338 Waterloo St. in New Hamburg will be hosting a free Thanksgiving lunch as a way to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

In a social media post, the restaurant says it will be suspending its regular menu for the first four hours on Sunday and welcoming dine-in customers from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or until supplies last.

Sabrina Hutchinson, one of the co-owners of the restaurant, said times are tough for members of the community, and the lunch is a chance to say thank you.

“The cost of living is very high and we find that a lot of people in our general sphere are struggling to make ends meet, so we wanted to give back in a way that we can, which is feed people,” she said.

The Scran and Dram first opened its doors in November 2015.

Hutchinson said staff are preparing 100 portions, and will include white meat, dark meat, gravy, stuffing, potatoes and cranberry sauce.

While the restaurant will not be receiving payment for the meals, donations to the Wilmot-Wellesley Family Resource Centre are welcome.
