On-street parking ban in effect for parts of Waterloo Region from heavy snowfall

The City of Cambridge has put out a parking ban for the next 24 hours, starting at 12 p.m. Dec. 29. Both the City of Waterloo’s parking ban and the City of Kitchener’s takes effect at 11:59 p.m. just before midnight.

The Township of Wilmot also declared a significant weather event starting at 5 p.m. as a response to dangerous road conditions. Residents are being asked there to avoid unnecessary travel.

It’s all due to the winter weather and strong winds carrying snow across the region. Kitchener said in a statement that “overnight parking exemptions are cancelled to allow for snow clearing.”

People are being asked not to park on any street at any time during that snow event and parking ban. Vehicles left there still are subject to tickets or being towed away.

If a car has been towed through this program, people are encouraged to call the Waterloo Regional Police dispatch number at 519-570-9777 to find their car’s location.

A reminder not to shovel snow onto roadways as snow plows continue to work to clear roads throughout Waterloo Region.

In a statement from the City of Waterloo they said residential roads will be cleared after main roads and transit routes. They added that residential roads have not been forgotten about.

Cambridge residents are also being asked to wait 36 hours after the snow event has ended to report a snow problem in any area.

In Waterloo, residents are being asked to clear snow and ice from sidewalks at the front or side of homes and businesses within 24 hours after the end of a snow fall. “Although it’s the law, it’s also the neighbourly thing to do. Snow or ice-covered sidewalks can be treacherous for all residents, especially those who already have mobility restrictions.”
