Police in the Royal City had their hands full this past weekend with several incidents leading to charges for Guelph teens, ranging from impaired driving to assault with a weapon.
Knife pulled in downtown Guelph assault
It all began on Friday night around 11:20 p.m., as Guelph Police were called out to reports of an altercation between three people in the area of Wyndham Street North and Carden Street.
Witnesses alleged that they saw two people assaulting a third, and during that scuffle, one of the suspects pulled out a large knife and held it toward the victim. That victim managed to flee his assailants and has not yet been identified. Anyone who may be able to help police in their investigation is asked to contact Constable Brett Woodburn at 519-824-1212, extension 7585.
The suspects in that assault were identified and arrested. One is a 17-year-old Guelph boy who now faces charges of assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a bail order. An 18-year-old Guelph man faces charges of assault.
Intoxicated teen charged in minor collision
It wasn’t long after that call that Guelph Police had a conversation with a 16-year-old boy, as they say officers were in the downtown area when they had to speak to the youth over his visible signs of impairment.
Police say that the young man was argumentative with police and received a warning that if he continued with his behaviour, he’d end up with a public intoxication charge.
Three hours later, police were called to a minor collision on Quebec Street. It’s alleged that a car was stopped at a red light when it was rear-ended by a vehicle being driven by that same 16-year-old Guelph boy.
The teen was taken to the police station, and confirmed to have more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system, leading to a charge of impaired driving and several Highway Traffic Act offence charges.
Teen assaults party host, punches man in face after being ejected
A 15-year-old Guelph boy is also facing assault charges, among others, after an “out of control” house party on Friday night.
Guelph Police say they were called on Saturday, as the owner of a home in the north end of the Royal City reported his daughter had hosted a house party the previous night that got out of hand. It’s alleged that the host of the party was assaulted during the gathering, while a bedroom mirror and some other property were also damaged.
The alleged assailant was removed from the home, but once outside, police say he threatened several parties and punched a man who had attended to try to help bring the festivities to a close.
That 15-year-old was arrested on Saturday night and has since been charged with mischief under $5,000, uttering threats, and the aforementioned assault charge.
