Trio of new Kitchener schools open for first week of school

A trio of new schools opened the doors for the first time in Kitchener this week in both the region’s Catholic and public school boards.

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board opened the doors to the revamped St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School on River Road East near Fairway Road North.

On the other side of town, in the Rosenberg neighbourhood, Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School officially opened.

Holy Trinity is a two-storey, 53,000-square-foot building on 200 Rosenberg Way. The $25.5 million building has 23 classrooms and welcomed 525 students for the 2025/26 school year.

Working alongside the City of Kitchener, construction began back in September 2024.

In Kitchener’s Centreville Chicopee neighbourhood, just over 540 students are now calling St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School home.

That project rang in around $20 million and also features 88 childcare spaces through RisingOaks Early Learning Child Care Centre.

In the Waterloo Region District School Board, Willow River Public School officially opened at 670 Thomas Slee Dr. in southwest Kitchener.

The Kindergarten to Grade 8 school is home to 591 students.

Planning for the public school began five years ago back in July 2020.

At that time the Ministry of Education had announced $25 million for the new school.
