NORAD ready to track Santa on Christmas Eve for 69th year

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is ready to track Jolly Old Saint Nicholas.

NORAD’s website for tracking the big man in red went online on Dec. 1 and includes games, videos, holiday music and a countdown to Christmas Eve. The site is available in nine different languages, including English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese and Korean.

Brigadier General David Moar, the deputy commander of the Alaskan NORAD Region, said NORAD is so famously known because of the yearly Santa Tracker and is in its 69th year.

“What we do for Santa is we provide him a warm welcome when he comes into our airspace on the 24th,” said Moar. “We make we give him a nice wave and make sure he has a nice flight through North America.”

On Christmas Eve, a hotline will be available for people from all over the world to call in and see where Santa’s exact location is. The hotline number is 1-877-HI-NORAD and will be available starting Dec. 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Dec. 25 EST.

Smartphone users can also download the official NORAD Tracks Santa app.

The official NORAD Santa Tracker website can be found here.
