Three youth go through the ice in Cambridge; bystanders spring to action

Three kids from Cambridge got the scare of their young lives when they went through the ice on a pond.

Waterloo Regional Police say in a post on social media it happened Tuesday afternoon, when “three youth fell in after the ice they were walking on cracked.”

Police confirm to 570 NewsRadio this was at a pond in the Saginaw Parkway area.

Officials say the bystanders who helped “the boys” out of the freezing cold water were employees working nearby They heard the youth calling for help.

The post from police notes the three “will be okay.”

WRPS also put out a winter safety reminder: “Please stay off frozen water bodies. It may appear safe, but the ice may not be thick enough to support your weight, due to the current flowing underneath. Be careful near riverbanks as well, as they will be icy and slippery.”

They add anyone who spots a dangerous condition should call 911.

Police did not give a specific location for this incident, saying ice safety is a message that applies to all bodies of water.
