A man is facing multiple criminal offences in connection with a stolen vehicle in Waterloo.
Officers with Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) responded at around 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 30 after receiving reports of a Chevrolet Silverado being stolen from a residence on Conservation Dr.
With assistance from GPS tracking, patrol units located the vehicle, which was being driven in the area of Adelaide St. in Kitchener.
When the driver saw the approaching police cruiser, he fled the scene. Officers did not pursue the suspect due to public safety concerns.
Police later located the vehicle again and attempted to stop it near Shantz Station Rd., with the driver moving westbound on Highway 7 swerving on both shoulders in an attempt to evade police.
The driver then stopped in front of oncoming traffic, exited the truck, and attempted to steal two separate vehicles.
After a foot chase, officers arrested both the driver and a passenger. No physical injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The passenger, a 20-year-old Waterloo woman, has been charged with being an occupant of a motor vehicle without consent and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6, 2025.
The driver, a 28-year-old Waterloo man, is facing seven charges, including:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Dangerous Driving
- Attempted Robbery (two counts)
- Driving while Disqualified
The investigation is ongoing through WRPS’ General Investigations Unit, and the accused is currently awaiting a bail hearing.
