All eastbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed for several hours Wednesday afternoon and evening at Townline Road in Cambridge following a fatal collision.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say just before 2 p.m., a wheel reportedly detached from a van heading westbound on Highway 401.

That loose wheel then crashed into an SUV heading in the other direction. The wheel also made contact with a transport truck on the eastbound side of the highway.

The 39-year-old man from Toronto, behind the wheel of the SUV, died in crash.

The investigation into the crash is still underway. No charges have been laid at this time.

The highway reopened shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday night.
