Woolwich crash brings down hydro pole, causes overnight outage

A few thousand homes in the northeast corner of Waterloo Region had to make do with no lights and no power on Monday night.

Waterloo Regional Police reported a collision at Country Squire Road and Millstream Drive around 9:30 p.m.

That’s just east of Northfield Drive East and University Avenue East.

Police say that issue was a single vehicle crash, with only minor injuries reported.

They do confirm the crash brought down a hydro pole.

Enova Power reports a vehicle crash triggered a power outage in that exact same area at that time.

At the height of the problem, 2,845 customers were in the dark.

The last few dozen homes and businesses saw their power restored just before 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police are still investigating the collision.
