Suspension orders have been issued to thousands of high school students in Waterloo Region for having outdated vaccination records.
Region of Waterloo Public Health has now handed out 6,819 suspension orders to local secondary students under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, which has not been enforced since 2019.
Those students have until Apr. 30 at 4:30 p.m. to submit updated records or a valid exemption. If they don’t, they’ll face suspension as of May 1.
Less than two weeks ago on Mar. 27, almost 3,000 elementary school students in Waterloo Region were suspended from school for having out-of-date vaccination records.
As of Apr. 8, just over 400 elementary students remain suspended.
