The Kitchener Rangers earned a big win on Friday night at The Aud. The Blueshirts beat the London Knights 4-3 in overtime.
Kitchener was down 2-0, and 3-2 in the game, but fought back each time on their way to victory.
Carson Rehkopf continued his stellar season with two goals including the overtime winner. He now has an OHL-leading 49 goals this season.
Rangers Head Coach Jussi Ahokas said it was an important win for the team, especially after losing their three most recent matchups to London.
“There’s been a one-way game where all kinds of things happened, there’s a rivalry for sure,” Ahokas said. “We wanted to win this one, and it gives the team a lot of confidence for sure.”
Luke Ellinas and Matthew Andnovski also scored for the Rangers.
“It’s awesome just beating a rival right down the road. We go at it every night, you know they’re good competition,” said Andonovski. “It’s always nice beating them, and especially winning in (overtime).”
Kitchener had a fully healthy lineup for the first time since October as Mitchell Martin returned from a 42-game injury absence.
“It’s a great addition for the hockey club. He’s a big body, he’s going to be fresh because he hasn’t been playing,” said CityNews 570 Colour Commentator Paul Fixter. “He just brings an element of physicality, which is going to be important.”
