SIU charge Waterloo police officer in vehicle pursuit that left man seriously injured

A Waterloo police constable has been charged by the province’s police watchdog in the vehicle pursuit and subsequent crash of a male driver who was left seriously injured.

The incident occurred on Jan. 17, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m. when the driver left the Brantford Commons plaza.

Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Director Joseph Martino determined that an officer, driving a non-police vehicle, pursued the man who fled in a minivan.

The 25-year-old man crashed into a tree in the Dunsdon Street and Winding Way area. He was later arrested and diagnosed with a serious injury.

Martino said Const. Andrew Polidori was charged with one count of dangerous driving. He’s expected to appear in court on Oct. 27, 2023, in Brantford, Ont.

No other details were provided.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
