Cambridge council gives karting in the mall a green light

New life is coming to the old, unused ice-rink inside Cambridge Centre mall: electric go-karts!

Cambridge Council this past week voted unanimously in favour of updating the zoning for the mall to include “Commercial Recreational Establishment,” and thereby allow the mall to operate the go-karts.

“I’m excited that they’re keeping the recreational use. It does mean a lot to the community to do that,” said Ward 9 Councillor Nicholas Ermeta. “And I see new memories being created in this space, and I think it’s great for the community, and it will continue to make our mall unique.”

Mayor Jan Liggett wanted to make sure the go-karts, even though they’re electric, would not give off any fumes like an electric “Zamboni” might.

Making the pitch to council on behalf on the mall owner, Moguard Corporation, Oz Kemel, from MHBC Planning, assured her they give off no fumes at all.

“This is just: you push the pedal and go,” he said.

The mall has yet to make an announcement about when the go-karts will be available to the public.
