Lockdown lifted at Westmount Public School

Westmount Public School was placed under lockdown as a precaution on Friday afternoon.
It was due to a police investigation in the Westmount Road and Glasgow Street area of Kitchener. Police said it related to a reported weapons incident.
Police announced shortly before 4 p.m. that the lockdown at the public school was being lifted and that there’s no concern for public safety.
Following an investigation a male youth was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
A cap gun, and caps were seized and no one was physically injured as a result of the incident.
The Waterloo Region District School Board provided the following statement to CityNews Kitchener on the incident.
“At approximately 2:55 p.m., Westmount Public School was placed into a lockdown. The lockdown was then downgraded into a hold and secure as the result of updated information from an ongoing Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) police investigation in the area. The hold and secure was lifted at approximately 3:25 p.m.”
Police have charged a youth with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose after responding to a weapons incident at Westmount Public School this afternoon.
