Kitchener City Councillors are looking through a proposal that could change how fireworks are used for big celebrations in the city.
A report suggesting the scaling back of fireworks around significant holidays will be presented during a Community and Infrastructure Services Committee meeting Monday afternoon.
The report recommends fireworks only be used on the day of major holidays instead of also being allowed the day before and the day after.
The proposal also suggests fireworks used on these holidays be shut down by 11 p.m.
This decision would impact fireworks used on Victoria day, Canada day and Diwali.
Council instructed staff to create the report last summer to review the current fireworks bylaws in the city.
The report notes Kitchener received at least 170 complaints related to fireworks last year and over 200 complaints the year before.
