Lancaster Street West in Kitchener back open after watermain break (update)

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

***Update: All remaining detours were lifted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Water is also back on in the area, but city officials note it could take up to an hour for normal water pressure to return***

Officials with Kitchener Utilities are reporting a watermain break on Lancaster Street West — resulting in both road closures and water outages in that area.

That watermain break is between Lancaster Street West and Bridge Street East.

Lancaster Street West is closed from Shirk Place to Bridge Street East, while southbound traffic will be unable to pass on Lancaster Street West from Bridgeport Road East to Shirk Place. The westbound bridge on Bridge Street East is also closed until noon on Tuesday.

Water is now off on Lancaster between Bridgeport Road East and Shirk Place — including Shirk Place and a portion of General Drive.

Those impacted by the water outage can access bottled water and bathrooms at Kitchener's Breithaupt Centre until 10 p.m. today, and between 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, if necessary.

The status of the watermain break is under investigation. It's estimated repairs will take between four to eight hours.
