The spotlight is back on live theatre as Drayton Entertainment returns with a lineup of shows for the 2022 season.

This includes shows at four area venues: Drayton Festival Theatre in Drayton, Hamilton Family Theatre in Cambridge, St. Jacobs Country Playhouse and St. Jacobs Schoolhouse Theatre.

Audiences will have flexibility.

During May to July, there will be options of performances at full capacity with no proof of vaccination required, reduced capacity with no proof of vaccination required, and reduced capacity with vaccination required.

Then, from August to December, the options are performances at full capacity with no proof of vaccination required and reduced capacity with no proof of vaccination required.

There will be musicals, comedies, and dramas from May 25 to December 31.

Alex Mustakas, the artistic director of Drayton Entertainment said the pandemic has been hard on the arts and culture sector.

“We're currently in the casting process and there are a lot of actors, dancers, and musicians very excited right now. Even our technical department is back at building sets, costumes, and props.”

Drayton first shut down shows March 2020 because of the pandemic.

This year's season starts at the School House Theatre on May 25 with Canadian musical, Billy Bishop Goes to War.

It runs for three weeks and follows the story of WWI flying ace William Avery Bishop.

The lineup also includes popular musicals like Mama Mia!, the Sound of Music, and Driving Miss Daisy.

“I designed a season that is going to appeal to all ages. I'm thinking it's anywhere between the ages of five and 95. There's a lot to choose from,” said Mustakas.

Tickets for Drayton members are already on sale by phone at 1-855-372-9866.

They are available online for everyone April 4.

“Although we continue to navigate this ongoing pandemic, we're hopeful about the future,” he said.

“We know our audiences, tourism partners, and communities love and miss theatre as much as we do, so we encourage everyone to join us in making wonderful memories this season.”
