Police, fire investigate blaze at abandoned home in Waterloo

By Mark Pare

Update:

Police now estimate the damage at around $500,000.

Original story:

The investigation will continue Thursday morning after a fire at an abandoned home in Waterloo.

Regional police and Waterloo Fire crews were called to the home on Hemlock Street just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Three stations and 17 firefighters got to the blaze, after a nearby resident reported the smell of smoke, that crews found in the back of the home.

There's no cause known at this time, and there's not really a damage estimate, as the home doesn't really have a value due to the fact it was abandoned and slated for demolition in the near future.
