Wedding season will soon be upon us, and one local event venue says things are looking up this year.
Christopher Jupp, executive director at Steckle Heritage Farm in Kitchener, is optimistic as he has received around 10 inquires on date availabilities for the venue this summer.
“As a whole, Ontario is beginning to be more optimistic that things are going to work out. People are also rushing to get their wedding done now in case there is another surge.”
Jupp adds a lot of couples are asking to increase the guest lists. The barn can hold 400 people, but for now the space will hold up to 150 people for a comfortable sit-down dinner event.
He adds that couples are leaning towards celebrating their wedding with as many people as possible.
“Since we have had couples who were supposed to get married in 2019, but didn't happen, same with in 2020 and 2021. This year couples are thinking let's get our wedding done and if restrictions are being lifted let's get as many people to celebrate with us as we can.”
With the current supply chain issues, caterers are also increasing their prices. As a result, Jupp said couples are now asking if they can bring in their caterers.
“We don't allow anyone to come in who hasn't been vetted and shows the proper credentials. We only use two companies. One is much higher priced than the other. I have noticed quite a few wedding couples are leaning towards the 'better-priced options.'”
The venue is asking for a guest list provided by the couple. Guests will have to show proof of double vaccination. Those who are not will be asked to give a negative COVID-19 test three days before the wedding. But, again, Jupp said should these requirements change at any time, Steckle Heritage Farm will follow government and public health requirements.
