It's a fundraiser with a twist — Farwell4Hire.
Mike Farwell, host of the Mike Farwell Show on 570 NEWS, is raising funds for cystic fibrosis, and he is willing to do anything you will hire him for as a part of his campaign!
Farwell said because of the limitations of the pandemic, there will large virtual fundraising component this year.
“We've got a terrific 50/50 draw that's running community-wide thanks to our friends at Rangers Reach, who are giving us the backbone for that. We're going to be doing an online auction. There's an opportunity thanks to our new website — farwell4hire.com, where you can buy swag and we've got sponsors for the swag, so that sends money into the charity, so on and so forth.”
He said for the first time ever — he won't be setting a fundraising goal.
“Last year, we actually did it for two months instead of one. I'm going back to one month this year, but last year we raised $160,000. I'm still blown away by that number. If we could equal that again this year, I'd be over the moon. I'm trying not to set a target. We're going to go hard for 30 days in May, and see where we end up at the end.”
Farwell also recalled the early days of his campaign, which included years of raising funds to remember his two sisters, Luanne and Sheri Farwell.
Both sisters lost their young lives to cystic fibrosis (CF), the most common fatal genetic disease in Canada. Farwell has been passionately carrying on his sisters' legacy of “caring, compassion, and kindness, characteristics that are remembered fondly to this day”.
Farwell said after years of raising money, he got tired of asking for donations without giving anything in return — and that's when Farwell4Hire was born.
“So I thought: what if I offered to do a job in exchange for your donations? Would you make a donation to my campaign if I cut your grass, if I washed your car, weeded your garden — or whatever! It's been on a crazy roll of momentum since then. I'll do anything that's asked of me, in exchange for a donation to cystic fibrosis.”
He said he is open to any work that is pandemic-safe, which includes outdoor, socially-distanced work.
