Ontario expands list of COVID-19 pharmacy vaccination locations

The Ontario government announced a rapid increase to its capacity in the COVID-19 vaccine roll out on Sunday, adding over 700 additional locations across the province to the list of pharmacies offering the AstraZeneca vaccine to eligible individuals aged 55 and older. According to a release from the province, those additional locations will start offering the AstraZeneca shot “throughout this week”.

The expansion to the list of pharmacies now on board to the program brings the total number of participating locations up to 1,400, with the expectation that number will reach 1,500 by the end of April.

Speaking to the move was Ontario’s Minister of Health Christine Elliot, as she said the expansion will make receiving the COVID-19 vaccine “easier and more convenient for eligible populations across the province.”

“I strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated when it’s their turn. Until we receive enough vaccines so that the majority of Ontarians can be vaccinated it remains critical for everyone to continue following public health measures we know work and keep us safe.”

AstraZeneca vaccinations through participating pharmacies in the province require an appointment to be made in advance. Eligible individuals aged 55 and over in 2021 can find a participating pharmacy through the province’s website and contact their local location to book an appointment.

The list of participating pharmacies will be updated once those 700 additional locations start to offer the COVID-19 vaccine.

“We are enabling Ontarians to access vaccines conveniently and closer to home by bringing more distribution channels on board,” said Solicitor General Sylvia Jones. “With the increasing spread of variants of concern and case counts in the thousands each day, we encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated and protect yourself and your family. For those still waiting, please be patient as your turn is coming.”

According to a Ministry of Health spokesperson, our region will increase the amount of pharmacies offering vaccinations. Currently, there are 18 locations who provide the AstraZeneca vaccine to adults 55 and older, with plans to increase to 59 pharmacies beginning this week. 

The spokesperson said that not all pharmacies will start vaccinating at the same time. As these locations receive supply, each location will be added to the pharmacy vaccine location list included here. The list of additional pharmacies has been included below.
