After closing for three months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Baden’s historic Castle Kilbride will be opening its doors to welcome guests once again. Part of a planned gradual reopening, the 1877 mansion will be open for guided tours on weekends beginning on April 3 with all necessary pandemic protocols in place to ensure safety of both staff and visitors.
Tracy Loch is the director and curator of the mansion and said that, prior to the mandatory province-wide closure in December, the national historic site was “nearly sold out” every weekend. Those who plan to visit beginning in April are expected to follow all safety procedures – including sanitizing hands, maintaining physical distancing and wearing a mask.
“We are thrilled to be reopening our doors once again, and we want to ensure that the safety and wellbeing of both visitors and staff is always our top priority.” Said Loch. “We hope visitors will enjoy being back and reconnecting with Castle Kilbride and the Livingston family history.”
Tickets for the Victorian-era mansion’s guided 35-minute tour will be available online for groups of five or less, as Castle Kilbride plans to carry over its newest exhibit My Dearly Departed from 2020. The exhibit is said to showcase the 100th anniversary of the death of Castle Kilbride’s owner and “Canada’s Flax Mill King”, James Livingston – along with an overview of Victorian mourning customs and traditions.
