Waterloo Region has fastest population growth in Canada

People continue to flock to the urban areas of the country.
A report, released by Statistics Canada on Thursday, shows the population of census metropolitan areas (CMAs) rose to 27 million in 2018/19.
Waterloo Region is leading the way, in terms of growth, at 2.8 per cent, followed by London and the Ontario part of Ottawa-Gatineau, both at 2.3 per cent.
Stats Can says permanent and temporary immigration continues to drive population growth in the nation's CMAs, accounting for almost all of their growth in 2018/19.
According to the government agency, the trend is linked to higher targets for permanent immigration, and to various government programs that draw many temporary workers and foreign students to the country.
It's also worth noting, no CMA posted a population decrease in the past year.
When you break it down by age, close to 69 per cent of those who live in Waterloo Region are between 15 and 64, 16.5 per cent are under 14 and 14.7 per cent are 65 years of age or older.
