King St. East in Kitchener one of CAA’s Worst Roads

By Blair Adams

King Street East in Kitchener is one of the five worst roads in Western Region.

That according to the CAA, which released its 2019 Worst Roads list for 2019 on Thursday.

King Street was third.

“If memory serves me correctly, King Street has been on there for a number of years as well. Again, mostly due to potholes and crumbling pavement, but also some congestion as well.” said Raymond Chan, Government Relations Specialist with CAA South Central Ontario.

London had two roads in the top 5: Wharncliffe Road South was number one and Wonderland Road came in at number five.

But the worst road in Ontario this year is Toronto's Eglinton Avenue East.

CAA says road conditions have been significantly impacted on Eglinton due to one of the largest transit expansions in North America.

Voters cited crumbling pavement, pot holes, congestion and poor road signage as areas of concern.

“It's a big, big mess up here in Toronto because there's an LRT line that's going in there … a lot of construction is happening. As I like to tell everyone it's a bit of short term pain for long term gain.” Chan told The Mike Farwell Show on 570 NEWS.

In the months to come, CAA plans to approach municipalities on the list, to see if any funding can be allocated towards fixing those roads.

85 per cent of respondents cited potholes or crumbling pavement as the reason they were nominating a road in their city.

Here is the complete Top 10 list of the Worst Roads in Ontario for 2019:
