Zehrs introduces Caroline’s Cart in Kitchener and other Ontario locations

An update to a story we brought you in October where a Fergus mother praised a local grocery store after making it easier for her daughter with disabilities to shop.

Melody Dekorte’s daughter Scarlett has Rett syndrome, a disability which made it difficult for the two to go shopping together, something the four year-old loved to do.

Dakorte approached the Fergus Zehrs about Caroline’s Cart, cart that allows a child or adult to be strapped in safely while shopping, and a few weeks later the store purchased not one, but two.

Now Zehrs have said they have introduced Caroline’s Cart to a number of their locations across Ontario, including one at the Stanley Park location in Kitchener.

Mike Melo Group Director for Zehrs Markets says the funding is coming from Zehrs.

“It’s important to have in our stores and we are working with our numbers and we think it is worth the funding.”

Each cart is between $800 and $900 dollars and Melo adds he hopes to have a lot more Caroline’s Carts in stores in our region by the end of the year or early next year.
