GrandLinq has been granted a noise exemption by Waterloo city council as it pushes forward with LRT construction in the Uptown.
The goal is to balance the need to get work done on time and limit the impact on area residents.
The areas affected include Erb Street from Father David Bauer Drive to King Street, King Street from Erb Street to Union Street, Caroline Street from Erb Street to Allen Street and Allen Street from Caroline Street to King Street.
The exemption, effective immediately, allows for work between now and the end of this year between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
There are some conditions in place however.
They include public notice be given to affected areas before any overnight construction takes place and overnight work can’t take place in any one area for more than six nights in a row.
As well, GrandLinq must do what it can to pre-stage work, materials and equipment before 7 at night to lessen the noise during overnight construction.
