King St. in Uptown Waterloo to close soon for LRT work

Another long term closure for LRT work will start in a few weeks in Uptown Waterloo

King Street, between William and Erb, could be closed for up to nine months, starting Monday, February 8th.

Businesses were informed of the closure at a meeting last week, hosted by the city and GrandLinq.

Patti Brooks with the Uptown BIA says some businesses were surprised by the news that King would be completely closed.

GrandLinq will be meeting with businesses over the next two weeks to help prepare them for the work and King closing.

Avril Fisken with GrandLinq tells 570 News the long term closure will help expedite the extensive work that needs to be done in the area.

“During this closure, we are going to be upgrading and relocating underground utilies, we will be installing tracks and the communitcation system as well as building the LRT stop and running the electrical wires that power the train. So the intent is that by the end of the closure the area will be complete and ready for the ION.”
