National Hunger Awareness Week

It’s National Hunger Awareness Week and food banks across the country will be holding events to educate the public on the work that they do, and to tell the stories of the hungry Canadians that they assist.
Locally, the Food Bank of Waterloo Region will be putting on their 2nd annual Waffles In The Warehouse fundraiser tomorrow starting at 7:30 am.
Wendi Campbell from the food bank joined The Eric Drozd Show to talk about tomorrow’s event.
“We’re going to be profiling a couple of stories tomorrow at the special event and we’ll be shattering some of the myths about who uses food assistance in our communities, and that people do use food assistance for small periods of times before moving on and then giving back through volunteering.”
All proceeds from the event will go to helping hungry neighbours and will feature a special breakfast, speakers, networking opportunities and prizes.
Campbell said she hopes it gives people an inside look at how the food bank helps people who are struggling in the region.
