Parliament returns with throne speech later today

It’s back to business in Ottawa today. Parliament returns after a controversial prorogation that shut down the House for an extra six weeks.
Today’s first order of business will be the throne speech, in which the Harper government will outline its plan to wean the country off its recession-triggered spending binge, beginning in March of next year.
A senior government official says the government will use the throne speech and tomorrow’s budget to allow for more foreign investment in Canada, and fewer bureaucratic hurdles to Canada’s business sector. The Tory government is expected to tell corporate Canada to take advantage of a stronger loonie to buy what they need to compete with foreign interests.
Today’s throne speech will be read at 2:30 p.m. by Governor General Michaelle Jean.
