12:00 Nadine Smith, Co-Founder and CEO of Equality FloridaT.W. Jenkins, pastor of Tampa’s New Hope Missionary Baptist Church is under fire after he canceled funeral services for Julion Evans-Capers, because parishioners read in his obituary that he was married to a man. The pastor called less than 24-hours before the funeral was to begin as the family attended the wake, literally standing next to Julion’s coffin. Julion’s husband, Kendall Capers got in touch with the funeral home’s managers and requested space for a funeral the next day. But the ugliness of this church’s actions have compounded the grief for Kendall who is still reeling from the shock. “I haven’t had a chance to grieve since I got the phone call,” Kendall said. He hasn’t heard a word from the church or any parishioners. “The message I want to send to them is it is not okay to turn your back on people in need. This is a huge injustice and my husband would want me to fight.”
12:30 Lays’ Do Us A Flavour Challenge
A local Cambridge woman is one of four finalists for the Lay’s “Do us a Flavour” potato chip seasoning contest – a challenge that comes with a whopping prize of $50,000, plus one cent of the winning flavour’s future sales. The four final flavours are tzatziki, Bacon Poutine, Jalapeno Mac N Cheese and Cinnamon bun. Voters will ultimately decide the winner. Voting runs from today (Aug. 12) through Oct. 15 at www.lays.ca/flavour, as well as by using hashtags on Twitter and on Instagram (#VoteTzatziki). Votes can also be cast by texting 101010. Voting is restricted to once per day on each medium. The winning flavour will be announced in November.
