A gastrointestinal outbreak has spread at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener.

The hospital has now closed its 5th Floor General Medicine unit to new admissions and transfers.

14 patients and eight staff are now experiencing symptoms.

Sick patients have been isolated and affected staff remain at home.

The outbreak began on Friday and testing is still being done to determine the nature of the illness.
