Women’s Crisis Services receiving $2M for skilled trades program

Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region (WCSWR) is receiving provincial funding to support a skilled trades program for survivors of gender-based violence.
The Ontario government has announced an almost $3.9 million investment for four training projects.
Just over $2 million will go to WCSWR to help 42 survivors get training, support, and wraparound services to build careers in the skilled trades.
“SHE Builds will provide women and gender-diverse individuals who have experienced gender-based violence with the opportunity to earn skilled trades certificates at no or low cost, while also gaining access to mentorship and work placements,” said WCSWR CEO, Jennifer Hutton, in a release.
“Together with our partners, we are wrapping survivors in support throughout their journey and are helping with entry into skilled trades, creating safer futures and long-term financial independence.”
The $3.9 million investment comes from the province’s Skills Development Fund Training Stream.
The other recipients are The Redwood for Women and Children Fleeing Abuse, the Canadian Association of Women in Construction, and the Metro Labour Education and Skills Training Centre.
