Waterloo regional police have charged a man with numerous offences, including arson, after a fire in Cambridge.

Police claimed the man was already wanted on a warrant when he was reported to be inside a multi-unit home in the Beverly Street and Dundas Street North area of the city Tuesday afternoon.

Around 1:45 p.m., police started talking with the man outside the home when they noticed an active fire inside.

“Officers forced entry to a door of the home, located the male, and removed him to safety,” reads a release.

The 59-year-old was sent to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. No one else was inside.

The man is now facing a long list of charges, including arson and uttering threats.

Police said there is no risk to public safety and the investigation continues.
