Have you or your family ever wondered where garbage goes after it gets collected by the city? Now is the chance to find out.
The Region of Waterloo is inviting the community to attend Waste Discovery Day at the Waterloo Waste Management Site on May 9.
The activities will begin with a guided information bus tour of the landfill to help teach kids about the waste management process, as well as a closer look at some of the equipment involved.
Coleen James, Regional Councillor and Chair of the Sustainability, Infrastructure and Development Committee, reiterated the importance of educating young people on waste management.
“We are excited to invite residents to see what happens after waste is collected and how the waste management site operates. Understanding how we can all find ways to reduce what we throw away helps extend the life of our landfill and create a more sustainable community,” she said.
Some of the other events people can expect are a meet-and-greet with a live falcon, face painting, mint planting and a food truck for lunch.
Waste Discovery Day will run Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Waterloo Waste Management Site (925 Erb St. W.) in Waterloo. People are asked to enter via Gate #1, and there is free on-site parking at the facility.
