Toronto man charged for a dozen auto thefts in Guelph

After a dozen auto thefts in Guelph, one man from Toronto is facing a very long list of charges.

Guelph police said it all began on March 12, when officers recovered a stolen pick-up truck and arrested a suspect.

That man was released from custody on bail.

Police said the same 26-year-old man was arrested again on Thursday for a long string of other auto thefts in Guelph throughout the winter.

Those included seven Honda CRVs worth more than $600,000.

Police said during their investigation, they seized two on-board diagnostic vehicle reprogramming devices, a number of break-in tools, and several bills of counterfeit currency.

They said the Toronto man is part of a sophisticated auto theft ring targeting high-end vehicles for resale.

He’s now facing more than 25 new charges, including 11 new counts of motor vehicle theft, and 10 counts of possessing stolen property over $5,000.
