Lockdown over at women’s prison in Kitchener, still without explanation

After nine days, a lockdown at the women’s prison in Kitchener is over, but there’s still no specifics coming from Correctional Service Canada about what caused the lockdown in the first place.

A brief statement issued Tuesday announced the end of the lockdown at Grand Valley Institution that began on March 8.

The only explantion offered in that statement was “the institution was placed under lockdown to address a security-related health and safety issue, which has been resolved.”

570 NewsRadio has reached out to the CSC for more details.

For now, normal operations have resumed, and visits to the prison on Homer Watson Boulevard are allowed once again.
